An evening in conversation with Heart & Parcel, a Manchester-based food and education project who bring women from migrant communities together to develop English language skills and cook food (especially dumplings!), while sharing stories and experiences along the way. This year they have brought out their first cookbook, giving a platform to the women, their stories and recipes. They called this project COOK/EAT/WRITE/SHARE and the resulting book is used to generate funds for this much-needed informal English language provision.
Enjoy a series of talks from the women who gave their recipes and stories, to the creatives behind the design, photography and words, all offering their insights on the process of making the book. You will also be treated to four delicious recipes from the book cooked by some of the women who attend Heart & Parcel sessions. Menu coming soon.
Hear about the process of each creative involved in making a fundraising book. Learn about decisions made and lessons learnt through the lens of photography, design, recipe testing, editing, printing, publishing, book stocking and promotion. Get inspiration and network with local practitioners in the creative and third sector who are interested in this area of social enterprise, charitable events and documentation of the recipes and stories of women from migrant communities. Come for the food, stay for the stories – and definitely bring your questions!

Dominic Latham and Jimmy Edmondson from Minute Works. Minute Works is a graphic design studio providing positive causes with creative ideas that lead to lasting change. This creative partnership was established to make projects with people who share the same ambition: a democratic, equitable, sustainable society.
Rebecca Lupton. Rebecca is a Photographer based in Manchester. She works predominantly as an Editorial portrait photographer for national newspapers and publishing houses including the Guardian. Interested primarily in people and portraiture, Rebecca uses photography to tell stories and document experiences
Jasmine Phillips. A London-based food writer and editor specialising in print, Jasmine is the deputy editor of Ocado’s food magazine, Ocadolife. She is also a class host at the London community cookery school, Made in Hackney.
